SPIN Hostel – The best place to stay in El Nido Palawan

During my “Moving On Holiday” (yeah, moving on from a heartbreak haha) last July, I discovered IMO the best accommodation in El Nido, Palawan..the SPIN Designer Hostel20160713_175514Just a five minute walk from the beach, this newly built hip hostel is perfect for young travelers who wants a decent place to stay that is affordable with necessary facilities, trendy interiors, fun activities and a chance to meet and socialize.

They have air-conditioned private single or bunk bed rooms with en suite bathroom and spacious all-female or mixed dorm rooms with a large shared bathroom and toilet.

From their website, (top left) Private Single Room; (top right) Private Bunk Bed Room; (bottom left) All Female Dorm; (bottom right) Mixed Dorm (photos courtesy of SPIN’S website)

I chose the mixed dorm room because it is the cheapest option at only Php 1,000/night with free breakfast also with the hopes of meeting new people =P

The reception desk is strategic in such a way that is open and easily accessible from the time you enter. Pretty much describes their amazingly friendly and helpful hotel staff. Special mention to Joy by the desk haha!

The check-in is very easy, I just showed my printed reservation and a valid ID then after a minute or two, Arvie, one of the hotel staff assisted me to my dorm room.

Once I passed the reception desk, I was in awe when I saw the interiors of the hostel. It looks very tropical with a hip and trendy vibe.

I was stunned when I saw their high-ceiling atrium stairwell. It’s just covered with polyethylene strings all around letting natural air and light come in the space. I think this is the best architectural feature of this hostel.20160716_123239

I like how they did the lighting along the hallway to the dorm rooms
My dorm room bed at the bottom bunk. You can specify when making a reservation whether you want the upper or lower bunk.

My favorite spot here is the lounge area which they call The Nest. It is surrounded with different styles of seating for different types of personalities. I find it really cool and interesting! 20160713_171819

They also provide musical instruments, books and board games for the entertainment of the guests

I really like how each chair is unique
And of course, my pick would be the most fabulous chair of all that is fit for a diosa! haha

One of the things I like in this hostel is they organize activities for their guests every night. It brings people together to socialize and meet new friends.20160713_175617I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon and put up a BBQ night at the Deck that night. For an extra fee of Php 200 I gave it a go. I’m a solo traveler anyway so this is a good start to meet fellow guests.

For the BBQ night, guests gather at the deck and offered a choice of either pork, chicken or fish. I had fish since I need to keep a flat tummy for tomorrow’s beach bumming haha :D.20160713_191459

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is served in their stylish Dining / Kitchen Area. I love the chairs and the colorful kitchen cabinets.

I was here in July and a few months after they commissioned local artists to do mural painting on their black walls with whimsical nature scenes as I saw in their instagram account, @spinhostelph

20160716_12444420160716_12445320160714_072143They offer buffet breakfast of bread, eggs of your choice whether scrambled or sunny side up, pancakes, fruits, coffee and fruit juice. I love this hostel! Haha

20160714_203143On Thursday night, they organized a movie night until 10pm. They even put mattresses on the floor for those who want to be more comfy haha.

And every Friday night, they do the epic PUB CRAWL! Where they hop to at least three bars in El Nido and drink the night away!

As the appetizer for the epic pub crawl, the SPIN staff offer these brandy shots
My #ootd for the epic Pub Crawl. Mirror selfie at the SPIN’s spacious shared toilet and lavatory area.

First stop is the nearby Angle Bar. It’s a small restaurant bar that caters to mostly foreign guests. They also offer light snacks and sandwiches. But pub crawl isn’t really a crawl if there’s no booze, so I had a glass of tequila sunrise 😉20160715_21154220160715_204918

Next stop is Kalabar. Short walk from Angle Bar and near Sei Nazioni Cottages along Rizal Street. It’s where I had the best Mango Mojito ever! So refreshing!

Next stop is Coco Bar by the beach with a live band.20160715_224853

Frozen Margarita + Live band = Chill pub crawl
Chilling with SPIN staff and fellow guests

Last stop is I think the only bar in El Nido that goes wild at night, the Pukka Bar. 20160715_235424

Then after partying all night we got so tired and hungry so…

Me and Arvie, one of the SPIN’s staff who became my newfound friend, had LOMI at 3am! Haha!

I had the best 4 days in El Nido. The stunning island hopping adventure, amazing stay at SPIN Hostel and the new friends I made. I will always remember this awesome experience and I will definitely go back!

Me with my new friends, Arvie and Joy of SPIN Hostel

Hopefully I will be back soon and go for another SPIN! 🙂
